Welcome to Ecology planters NZ
Ecology planters NZ is an organisation focused on a hands on and practical approach to restoring and enhancing coastal marine environments.
We are based at the top of the South island, Christchurch and further down the East coast currently.
As systems develope we hope to be able help enhance the wider New Zealand coast lines.
Ecology planters NZ is in its developemental phase of setting up the processes, systems and infrastructure to be able to carry out the conservation initiatives.
Please reach out to partner with us to help make the vision a reality of restoring our Native fauna and flora.
Our primary objective is restoring New Zealand's coastal marine environments; nurturing them back into healthy, flourishing and abundant ecosystem.
Observing marine habitats with healthy fauna and flora.
Our Goals include:
- Collaborate with organisations, industry, community, Iwi and governing bodies.
- Working alongside scientists and other specialists, to carry out restoration work effectively.
- Create efficient and cost effective methods for Marine restoration which are measurable, expandable and visual.
- Create work opportunities and new revenue streams in the Conservation industry.
- Endeavor to make NZ more beautiful, pest free, thriving, with healthy and robust native ecosystems
Our vision
Creating beautiful, vibrant, safe and accessible snorkeling/diving locations. These locations plan to be close to communities for a sustainable food source and for recreation.
To restore and enhance New Zealand coastal marine environments back into flourishing, robust and healthy ecosystems.
Current Baron marine environment
Devoid of marine plant species that create habitat and food for many marine creatures.
Intended marine restoration environment
Healthy abundance of marine plant species and a balanced diversity of sea creatures.
Our practical hands on restorative work involves:
Riparian Native planting along water ways
Protecting water ways from contaminants, stabilising ground, beautification and natural habitat restoration.
Marine and fresh water Biosecurity work
Removing invasive marine species from coastal marine and fresh water environments to a depth of 10m.
These species include and are not limited to:
-Exotic Caulerpa
-Undaria (Undaria pinnatifida)
-Mediterranean fanworm (Sabella spallanzanii)
-The clubbed tunicate (Styela clava)
-Fresh water invasive Gold clams (Corbicula fluminea)
Green shell mussel bed establishment
Recreating habitat, filtering sediment and toxins from water, natural food source and more.
Kelp forest restoration
Habitat recreation, carbon syncing, oxygenation, along with creating stunningly beautiful dive sites.
Sea grass meadow establishment
Creates natural habitat, binds the sediment on the sea floor, breeding grounds for many fish species, large carbon syncing, Nitrogen fixing, oxygenation along with being beatiful for diving.
Establishment of other Sea weed species
Creating food sources, natural habitats, spat settling substrates for Mussels, Scallops and other species along with enhancing dive sites.
Seeding of Juvenile Paua
Restoring, boosting and restocking Paua populations.
Restoring Scallop populations
Providing breeding stock and releasing juvenille Scallops.
Oyster bed establishment
Providing breeding stock and releasing juvenille Oysters.
They help filter water in tidal locations and create food sources along with other benefits.
Creating protected breeding stock colonies of Paua
To help boost natural breeding stock of Paua in different areas.
Creating protected breeding pairs of large mature crayfish
To help boost natural breeding of crayfish in different areas.
Mangrove planting establishment
New Mangroves are created to secrete carbon, create habitat and protect the coast line from ocean surge
Salt marsh planting and establishment
New Salt marshlands are created to secrete carbon and create habitat for an abundance of species.
Peat wet land planting and establishment
New Peat lands are created to secrete carbon and create habitat for an abundance of species.
